OUR ACTIVITIES
A mid-mountain region in the heart of Haute-Corse, characterized by high hills covered with endless chestnut groves, while on the ridges, small villages of schist houses seem to watch over them.
The Castagniccia, a mountain massif of medium altitude, dominated by San Pedrone, 1767 m. Austere and magnificent, Castagniccia is primarily the kingdom of the chestnut tree, Romanesque chapels, and baroque churches. Dotted with more than a hundred hamlets, this region has the highest density of villages on the island and encompasses three 'pieve': Alesani, Orezza, and Ampugnani, which contain precious villages full of history. Under the shade of chestnut trees, the Corsican Regional Natural Park has maintained a network of discovery trails, easy to walk and rich in colors. These country trails will allow you to discover both nature and landscapes, traditional villages, and their inhabitants.
Castagniccia is dense with villages full of history, guardians of Corsica's most beautiful architectural treasures. One of them, Morosaglia, reminds everyone of the country's son, Pascal Paoli. In this village, an exhibition is dedicated to the great man in his birth house where a chapel houses his ashes.
The name of the region has been prominent since the 17th century. Beyond the chestnut-derived products, the region has been renowned since antiquity for its thermal waters. The water from the OREZZA station, already appreciated by the Romans, was recognized as being of public interest by an imperial decree on February 7, 1866. Today, it enjoys commercial success.
